HeartMath Institute "Over the years we have experimented with different psychological and physiological measures, but it was consistently heart rate variability, or heart rhythms, that stood out as the most dynamic and reflective of inner emotional states and stress."  added 09/27/01

virtual  congress started Sept 10, 2001 with 21 topic areas and about 200 papers

HRV_Stroke.gif (60181 bytes)Heart rate ceases to vary after an ischemic stroke. The heart rate normally appears to vary by 0.3 Hz. This lack of heart rate variation should be noticed by a Skyaid Watch. A neurologist may need to look at the heart rate variability data to determine if the Skyaid Watch wearer has just experienced an ischemic and a call should to be made for to get him to a stroke care center so that the tPA treatment can be applied within 2 hours.  The graphic is from the May 1999 issue of Stroke Journal   added 12/10/00

HRV Predict Heart FailureThis abstract of a French article has 17 people dieing of heart failure while their hearts were being monitored.  It appears that heart rate variability computed by the Skyaid Watch might allow prediction of heart failure prior to sudden cardiac arrest.  added 3/09/01

HRV Study summary of Oct 1998 Circulation:
Researchers followed the group for a little over one year.
During that time fifty four patients died.
About half (51.4 percent) of the patients with little variability in their heart rates died,
while only 5.5 percent of patients with normal variability died.

A Sudden Cardiac Arrest is proceeded by a speeding up (tachyarryhthmia) 80% of the time or slowing down (bradyarrhythmia) somewhat less than 20% of the time. This speeding/slowing down may be detectable by the Skyaid Watch. If so, the Skyaid Watch could inform the wearer when a sudden cardiac arrest is eminent.   From page 250 of Conn's Current Therapy 2000: latest approved methods of treatment for the practicing physician - by Robert Rakel M.D. added 09/19/00

or slowing down somewhat less than 20% of the time.
