Oct 4 2000 Critique of Skyaid added
10/05/00
Henry Lahore met for two hours with an originator of the Seattle EMS system,
Jerry Montgomery on Oct 4, 2000
Jerry had many very interesting points which will be incorporated into the
Skyaid plan.
The following are some highlights.
FIRE DEPARTMENT IN US
Fire departments rule the EMS development in the US
The fire departments are very slow to change their policies and procedures.
The fire departments want a clear AH HA! view of why they should change
The firemen like gadgets and toys.
example of gadget they are buying
- the device which allows seeing a fireman in smoke
-While it costs $25,000, people (firemen and
public) can easily understand how it can help.
It might take 5 years to pilot test Skyaid usage in a few US type communities to
demonstrate the benefits.
Fire departments like to 'look better', and will buy items which make them look
better.
CONCLUSION
Initial markets for Skyaid will probably be outside of the US. - will modify
metro estimates accordingly.
A custom microphone to 'hear' a Skyaid Watch beeping at 500 feet, or thru walls
will be a great gadget for the fire departments.
SEPARATE THE DEVELOPMENT OF SKYAID WATCH FROM SKYCAR- - - - - - - - - - -
Jerry thinks that the Skyaid Watch has a great potential by itself and it should
not be just a preview of the Skycar usage
Skyaid will buy the Skyaid Watch.com URL already taken
He strongly feels that Skyaid should patent the Skyaid Watch
He likes the idea of leasing the watch instead of purchase
There are many other applications for the Skyaid Watch - such as
- Alzheimer patients
- Policemen and security personnel
- be able to track location
during risky times, or when they are down (heart stopped)
- Forest fighters - track their location vs
the forest fire*
- Red Cross of other emergency personnel*
- Undercover agents of all stripes - CIA,
etc.
-
provided the radio frequency transmission is not so strong as to be
identified/located
DENIAL CAN NOT BE DISREGARDED - - - - - -
update
The vast majority of people Jerry had encountered in the past 30 years of
EMS
have denied that they would
ever be a heart attack or stroke victim.
There are many examples of his conclusion in the literature.
People often do not get 'the message' until after their second heart/brain
attack
and, of course, many people have not
survived the first and second attack.
CONCLUSION
Do not initially try to sell the Skyaid service directly to individuals.
Focus selling Skyaid Watch, Skyaid to spouses, adult children, key employees, etc.
Note: the lifetime
cost of an ischemic stroke in the US is $90,000
Consider marketing Skyaid as Xmas or birthday gift*
Will denial decrease once people are aware that there are ways to decrease the
problem? update *
Example: In the US there appears to be much less denial of cancer now that there
are treatments.
Other
Firefighters will not tolerate many Skyaid Watch false alarms.
People will use something like a Skyaid Watch only after they are told to by
someone they trust, advertising will be ignored.
Skyaid estimates of life savings should include a range to be believable
