The
Skyaid Organization plans to save 100,000 lives per year by enabling
immediate emergency response in metropolitan areas around the world. It
will provide quick aid for sudden cardiac arrests as well as heart
attacks, strokes, fires, and accidents.
Skyaid
was formed as a non-profit organization in July 2000 in Washington state
to eliminate the problem of slow access to emergency medical
care.
Skyaid
will consist of primarily of two components: a Skycar and a Skyaid Watch. The Skycar
is a new concept aircraft similar to a helicopter but it is 3X faster, 3X
quieter, and 10X safer. The Skycar will fly up to 360 miles per hour to the
person who requested help via an emergency response system or via the
Skyaid Watch. Moller International is
developing the Skycar in Davis, California.
The
Skyaid Watch is a wristwatch that
monitors a person's pulse rate and sends a radio request for help when it
senses a sudden cardiac attack or if its 'panic buttons' are pressed.
Sudden
cardiac arrests will be halted by the Skyaid emergency medical technician
defibrillating the heart within five minutes of the time the call for help
was made, or automatically within five minutes if the person was wearing a
Skyaid Watch.
Critical
care centers in a small fraction of US hospitals are now able to actually
reverse the damage of heart attacks and strokes
only if they can attend to the patient within two hours of symptom onset.
Skyaid will enable victims within a 140-mile radius to get to the critical
care center in a regional hospital within two hours.
Statistically,
heart disease is the number one killer for the majority of
people worldwide. Forty
percent of the sudden cardiac attacks occur without any prior indication
and result in death if aid is not applied within 10 minutes. There is only
a 50 percent survival rate after five minutes. In addition, the 40 percent
of sudden cardiac attacks that are not observed have a survival rate of
less than 1%.
The
Skyaid Watch is the only way to survive an unobserved cardiac attack
and can add an average of 5
years to a life by halting sudden cardiac attack. Eighty percent of
deaths from sudden cardiac attack can be prevented if automatic
defibrillation is applied within five minutes of the attack. Typically,
automatic defibrillators arrive more than 10 minutes after being
requested, which is too late to help.
House
fires also can be contained or extinguished by a compressed air foam
system carried on the Skycar. The Skycar can provide a first response to
those house fires, when the conventional fire engine is either too far away
or is unavailable. Likewise, the Skycar can respond to emergency requests
for help for accidents if a ground-based team cannot respond quickly
enough.
Skyaid
expects coverage of the first metropolitan area by 2005. By 2010, Skyaid
anticipates saving 100,000 lives
annually around the world in 70 metropolitan areas.
The
Skyaid Organization is looking for contributions, support, and employees.
Skyaid will be able to give US tax deductions retroactively after completing
the necessary US nonprofit paper work. Early donations will
determine which metropolitan areas are covered first.
Skyaid
can save your life, the life of a family member, save your house, and help
you maintain your quality of life after a heart attack or stroke.
A
donation of $50 can save a life. Thus, $1,000,000 could save 20,000 lives.
How many lives do you want to help save?
Skyaid is the only answer to this worldwide problem. |
