SKYAID |
Skyaid Organization Mission last updated 10/30/02The Skyaid Organization will enable saving at least 100,000 lives per year by developing rapid emergency response, with initial emphasis on aborting sudden cardiac arrest. Eighty percent of deaths from sudden cardiac arrests can be prevented if automatic defibrillation is applied within 5 minutes of onset. Typically automatic defibrillators arrive more than 10 minutes after being requested, even in the US. The Skyaid organization will cause the development of a Skyaid Watch which will automatically send a life-saving radio signal if the wearer’s heart should stop. The Skyaid Watch will also be used to request emergency help in case of fire, heart attack, stroke, fire, accident, crime in progress, etc. The Skyaid Watch is expected to be available from Skyaid organization on a subscription basis in 2003. This will enable a typical 911 operation to abort three times more cardiac arrests. Several new types of Vertical TakeOff and Landing aircraft are being developed that will enable the Skyaid organization to save even more lives by 2005. The VTOL air service will initially provide rapid delivery of an automatic defibrillator to a parking lot, street, driveway, etc. Ground-based 911 and ambulance systems will provide continued care and transportation to a medical facility. The VTOL service will be extended to other types of emergency and rescue operations that include flying one or two victims to medical facilities. Hundreds of Skyaid systems deployed over urban areas can provide service to 40% of the US population. Similar Skyaid systems would cover a significant percentage of the urban population in the rest of the world. The Skyaid Organization is a nonprofit corporation set up July 2000 in Washington State. Soon Skyaid will accept tax-deductible US and international contributions. Each $50 contribution is expected to enable the saving of a life.
The improvement in survival rate depends on many factors. |
