Los Angeles - Las Vegas in less than 1 hour  added 11/06/00  updated 12/19/00

Imagine what will happen when people in Los Angeles, San Diego or Phoenix
can get to a Las Vegas casino in less than 1 hour.

People would be able go to Las Vegas after work, and return to home the same night.

Air-taxi Skycar for this route can be operated at a profit for fares somewhere between 20 to 40 cents per mile. Each direction of the approximate 230 mile trip would cost something between $46 to $92. Casinos might subsidize of portion of the travel cost.

The cost of a complete air-taxi system between LA and LV with 235 air taxi (@ $500,000 each) is estimated to cost  $300 million. This would provide 4,000 one-way trips per day (2,000 round trips), the amount of air travel in 1990.

Most of these air-taxi trips would be concentrated in a 12 hour time period.

An air taxi would depart each of 5 LA skyports for LV about every 2 minutes.

It will cost about 20% more (range: $55 to $110) to fly from San Francisco, Salt Lake City or Reno to LV since these cities are about 20% further away.

This information was presented to the Vice Chairman of the MagLev project (LA-LV) at Caesar's palace Sept. 1992.
However, the project was only considering transportation options which had already been built
