Environment for Skycar System Development Probably provide all of the following: voice-mail, e-mail, issue tracking, project management, change management, notification of changes and new items, desk-top conferencing, discussion capability, voice to text conversion (by people, not computers), full text search of public/important messages, Spreadsheet, Graphics package (Visio?), Database. Many of these services are already provided by www.hotoffice.com Software developed on servers Sever-based computation should be provided to all participants. Even slow computers (say Pentium 100) will be able to access scores of very powerful programs on central servers thru even 56 kbaud modems. Citrix now provides server-based (also known as thin-client) capability to over 50,000 people around the world. This server-based computing also allows the person to log into the system from any computer which can access the internet. Collaboration during development Comments can be added at any level of detail on chapter, paragraph, or even phrase. Comments can be private, for a group, or public Comments can be voted on. Option to send comments to a group when posting a comments Full text search can even search for comments by type, author, date, etc. Discussion lists Comments can be deleted by author or deleted if being voted down by a majority of people voting (say 60% of the voters, if there are at least 10 voters) Hyperlinks between anything text, code, comments, etc. Can have up to 125 concurrent authors of a document. (I had set up the Boeing standard for this kind of co-authoring using off-the-shelf software = Folio). The system can automatically record who changes which parts of the document, when, etc. |
