The Washington State Transportation Center at The
University of Washington recently studied 11 major commutes in the Puget Sound
region. Here's a look at the three worst. The afternoon commute is charted in
each case.
Bellevue-Tukwila, Interstate 405 (13.4 miles)
Northbound travel time at the peak in the morning is 150 percent longer than
during off-peak hours. The chart below shows the southbound commute.
Renton-Auburn, Highway 167 (9.8 miles)
Highway 167 not only has people traveling to work in the morning, it is a major
truck route. By 5 p.m., southbound drivers have about a 60 percent chance of
being stuck in traffic traveling less than 35 miles per hour.
