Skycars will likely replace autos and
aircraft for medium trips
The Skycar will be a primary means
for 4 to 6 passengers to travel 40 to 1900 miles.
( If less than 40 miles, the
environmentalists will probably complain about the 1/2 gallon of fuel required
for vertical takeoff)
The primary reasons:
Speed: 250-400 miles per hour
Vertical take-off and landing - no roads or airports needed
Good fuel efficiency along with low pollution
Safer way to travel than either autos or commercial aircraft
The Skycar has been under
development by Moller International www.moller.com for over a decade.
Previous versions have
flow over 200 times.
The 4 passenger prototype will have its
first flight soon.
The prototype is
designed for visual flight rules, but serves as a basis for an
air taxi service which would be a "computer with
wings".
Such an air taxi service will need a LOT of software
during the next 5 years of development.
The software will
probably cost over $1 billion to reach phase III
autonomous operation (yes, that means unpiloted).
