Vertiport Concept for Houston added Feb 2002 The following is by Travis: Trav [thughs@mail.uh.edu] This is a 4th year undergraduate Architectural Design Studio project at the University of Houston. It is just a hypothetical studio project for a tiltrotor airport not far from downtown Houston. Two other people in the same class also did vertiports in Houston, but ran out of time and didn’t do web sites. About the design project: “In the Fall 2000 Semester, the students worked with the visiting critic, Roger Riewe at Riegler Riewe Architekten in Graz, Austria ( http://www.rieglerriewe.co.at ). Roger spent four days at the end of September (2000?) introducing the semester's design project - A small airport for a large city. Throughout the semester, the students stayed in contact with Roger through "virtual crits" using their web site.” About the Greenway Plaza Vertiport: -How many of the buildings, etc. already exist? – All bldgs surrounding the proposed Terminal exist. See Site Analysis. -Design allows for CTRs or helicopters. - Designed for peak of 1,642,500 passengers per year. See Program Assuptions, Passenger Load. - Bell 609 civil tiltrotor can service a 750 nm radius, however this vertiport will probably service mainly the larger regional airports expanding service later to other local and regional vertiports as they are built. The following web pages document the development process: 1) Program Assumptions - 2) Site Analysis - 3) Technical and Code Considerations - 4) Circulation/Structural/Mechanical - 5) Dallas Vertiport Tour - 6) Bell 609 information –
