Internal Defibrillators have been shown to reduce likelihood of death from subsequent heart attacks by just 30%. For a or a 1,200 patient trial there were 86% alive after 20 months instead of 80%. At 36 months 78% were still alive with ICD vs. 69% without the ICD. Please note that the ICD and associated surgery are not cheap: $20,000. New England Journal of Medicine, March 2002. added 03/20/02

Globallocate GL-16000 GPS chip requires less than 0.0005 percent of battery charge per fix, far lower than competing technologies. The processor is capable of acquiring satellite signals below -158dBm, enabling GPS signal reception indoors. It is a tiny 8mm x 8mm and is expected to cost only $10 in large quantity. Acquisition time varies from 1/10 second outdoors to seconds indoors. They teamed with Fujitsu in Feb 2002 This is different than the SnapTrack system which Qualcom bought. They apparently have servers around the world, but it is not clear if this has been interfaced to cell-phone providers. GPS Magazine had article on it in Sept 2001. added 03/13/02
