Microsoft just announced a wristwatch which can receive data broadcast over leased FM spectrum ("DirectBand") in 100 cities in the US. There were over 300 articles mentioning  Microsoft and Spot in the first 24 hours on Google.   Here is a copy of the Microsoft news release   It includes a hint to future heart monitoring by one manufacturer. added 01/10/03

A device has been made - Rapid Thermal Exchange - which cools overheated athletes when they put their hand in a cooled glove.  It has been able to cool 3 degrees in just 10 minutes. Skyaid called the company, www.avacore.com  and found that they are aware that this could also be used to cool stroke victims.   Details on stroke cooling.  added 1/08/03

Summary of what was happening with Skyaid during 2002  added 1/08/03
We have been concentrating on what we can do without any current funding
We are developing 3 & 4, the communications and location portions as described below.
Voicemail from anywhere in a large region, e.g. U.S., India, etc.
to/from cellphone, PDA, Blackberry, SkyAid watch, etc.
Packaging it as a large profit service to be provided by a telecommunications company.

Why Skyaid Watch is so hard to get operational   added 01/08/03
For the SkyAid Watch to be fully operational the following must be in place:
1) Some way to monitor the heart - hopefully easily worn 24 hours a day
2) Reliable way to automatically alarm in case of a sudden cardiac arrest (or before)
   - false alarms are not acceptable
3) Some method to communicate the problem to an emergency organization
      - with details if at all possible
4) Some method to provide location of the emergency
5) Some way for emergency organizations to quickly respond to the emergency (Skycar in future)

Off subject: The Lahore pigeon - found by Germany in Lahore, India (now Packistan) in 1880 Added 01/08/03

IBM announced in Dec 2002 the development of a heart monitoring watch connected to the chest by wires and to a cellphone by bluetooth.  This was being developed for an unnamed European company (which may have been the same one which contacted Skyaid in 2002). IBM is investigating adding GPS capability. Three of the news releases are here. added 1/08/03
