VTOL at Skyaid.org updated
04/01/02
The Skycar is the primary contender for saving lives in
the Skyaid system.
There are many VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) alternatives.
Many alternative VTOL provide fast, safe flight without the use of airports.
The Skycar main web site is www.moller.com

CarterCopter
is able to do jump takeoffs with zero roll (brakes on). It is a hybrid
autogyro and fixed wing aircraft. Current rear propeller is 8 foot in
diameter. Future versions of CarterCopter might be able to cruise at 500
mph. The ultra high inertia rotor (55 lbs of depleted uranium in each of two
blade tips) used during takeoff and landing prevents the CarterCopter from
making rapid correction to turbulence, such as would be found on top of
buildings. It can not hover for more than 5 seconds, but apparently can
land safely without any power at all times (no dead man zone). added
