Patient investment could result in very large ROI      by Henry Lahore  updated 11/3/00

I estimate that at least 1,000 man years of software will be needed for UltraSafe VTOL operation

I am hoping to have the software developed as open source, similar to Linux, at a minimal cost.

If the software must be purchased, even development in India will cost $90,000 per man year, thus the software cost would be at least $100 million.

It is unlikely that Skyaid could get $100 million in donations to fund the software development.

This UltraSafe software will enable wide-spread use of the air taxis for trips of 10-400 miles.

I have estimated that the cost of air taxi trips to be between 20 cents and 90 cents per passenger mile.

This software will be designed to be adapted to a variety of vertical take-off and landing vehicles,
and not just optimized/designed for the Skycar.

It is easy to imagine a 1 cent per passenger mile tax on air-taxi operation to pay for the original development of the software and the on-going maintenance as well as updates.

If we assume in 20 years that 1,000 miles of air-taxi travel per year average for each of the current 200 million or so automobile owners, then there would be 200 billion air taxi miles per year. (reminder - a NASA director believes that Skycars will be a $ 1 trillion a year business)

At 1 cent per passenger mile, this passenger mile tax would amount to $2 billion per year.

Even adding $100 million for software maintenance and upgrades this is a 10X return on investment every year.

However, most investors are not patient enough to wait for 20 years.

Reminder of the primary reasons why this investment opportunity might not become a reality:
    1) Software is developed at low cost - open source
    2) Skyaid gets donations to fund commercial software development
